The Challenge

Education is the single most effective way to reduce poverty and improve the lives of children and families across the globe.

Million children without an education beyond the 4th grade

According to UNESCO, if all students in low-income countries left school with basic reading skills, 171 million people could be lifted out of poverty. This is equal to a 12% cut in global poverty. Providing a quality education literally creates a better tomorrow, and yet in many countries, including those we partner with, the statistics are startling.

In Chile

only 21% of students from the lowest income quartile graduate from high school

In Israel

only 21% of students from the lowest incomes graduate from high school

In India

58% of children (35 million kids) do not complete primary school

In Mexico

only 45% of children complete their high school education

In Indonesia

only 29% of the poorest children attend secondary school

In South Africa

only 20% of the black population has finished high school
