Sunita is the Co-Founder and Interim Executive Director of 1 World. Prior to founding 1 World, Sunita was the Director of Special Projects for the KIPP Foundation. Sunita was also the Chief of Staff at KIPP Houston and Managing Director of People Strategy & Organizational Learning at Excel Academy Charter Schools. Aaron is the Co-Founder and Ex Officio Board Member of 1 World. In 2004 Aaron founded KIPP Shine Prep, KIPP’s first early childhood and elementary school. Prior to founding 1 World, Aaron was the Head of Primary Schools for KIPP Houston. Aaron is a former Teach For America Corps Member from the Rio Grande Valley, as well as an Echoing Green, Fisher and Aspen Fellow. YAEL K. ROSS
Country Manager, Mexico
Yael is 1 World’s Mexican Country Manager and Directora General of SER. Prior to joining 1 World, Yael was a research assistant at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. Yael has been an education consultant, a teacher, and a curriculum developer. Yael has a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Psychology from Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico and a Master’s in Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education. She was the first Mexican to be awarded with the Intellectual Contribution / Faculty Tribute Award by her peers and faculty nomination at the Mind, Brain and Education Masters Program in Harvard University. Director of Academics, Mexico
Colin is the Director of Academics for the growing network of 1 World Schools in Mexico. In his current role he supports the scaling up of great schools across Mexico by directing all leadership training and support. Prior to this role, he worked for 10 years with KIPP, founding a total of four KIPP schools in Houston and New Orleans. In his first year teaching, Colin was part of the team that founded NOW College Prep in Houston, a K-8 school chartered for Katrina evacuees. After completing the Fisher Fellowship, Colin was the founding school leader at KIPP Leadership Primary for 5 years. Dr. LIZETTE B. SUXO
Country Manager, Chile
Lizette is 1 World’s Chilean Country Manager. Prior to joining 1 World, Lizette was the Chief Learning Officer at KIPP Philadelphia Schools. Lizette was also a Teach for America corps member in New York City where she was an elementary classroom teacher and a grade level chair. In 2006, Lizette became the founding school leader at the Achievement First Bushwick Elementary School and grew the school from K-4th grade. From 2013-2015, Lizette also served as adjunct faculty at the Relay Graduate School of Education in New Orleans, LA where she taught Elementary Education to master’s students. Lizette has a BA from Bryn Mawr College, a master’s in Teaching and a master’s in Education Administration from Pace University, and a doctorate in Education Leadership from Harvard University, where she was a member of the inaugural EdLD cohort. Leadership Coach & Strategic Support
Josh is 1 World’s Leadership Coach and Strategic Support. A significant portion of his time is spent directly supporting our Israeli partner, YEDA, and their two schools. Prior to joining 1 World Josh was the Superintendent of KIPP NYC. Josh was also a Teach For America corps member in NYC, a founding teacher at the original KIPP school in NYC, the founding principal of KIPP Academy Lynn and the Executive Director of KIPP Massachusetts. Mike co-founded the Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) with Dave Levin In 1994. Mike supports KIPP regions and global development for the KIPP Foundation, along with continuing a board leadership role within KIPP Houston. In 2013, Mike supported Aaron and Sunita in launching The 1 World Network of Schools and is the Founding Board Chair of 1 World.
Norman Atkins is the Co-Founder and President of Relay Graduate School of Education. Norman is also the Founder, Board Chair, and former CEO of Uncommon Schools, one of the nation’s highest-performing nonprofit charter management organizations with 38 schools serving 10,000 students.
David Leebron is the President of Rice University. Under Leebron’s guidance, the institution has undergone a period of growth and transformation. Prior to taking the helm at Rice, Leebron was Dean of Columbia Law School.
Nick Canning is the Chief Operating Officer of Teach For All. Nick was previously a Deputy Director in the UK Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit. He led the unit’s education team, providing strategic policy advice to the PM and No.10, and working with government departments to develop major strategies and White Papers. He has also worked at the UK Treasury as a Senior Education Adviser, was the economist for the Britain in Europe campaign, and worked for Graham Bishop – a European economics consultancy. Nick holds a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford.
